Reflection #3:The Cask of Amontillado
This story some consider that is a perfect crime, maybe it is, but I can assure you that is not the perfect vengeance. The story begins with Montresor giving us a preview of what he will do for vengeance. The victim will be Fortunato a very rich and powerful who was an expert in wine. Montresor seem to know he’s victim very well and not only knew the passion of Furtunato with wine, he also knew that in that time Fortunato was sick. Montresor also knew that Fortunato had given order that he was going to be out for a while and he did not want anyone to search for him. Montresor seems to be a very malicious and brilliant person, because he used the strong expertise on wine of Fortunato to transformed it in the own weakness of his victim. Montresor and Fortunato met in the middle of carnival, Fortunato was a little drunk, and Montresor managed to deceive him by telling him that he have some wine and that he was going to Luchesi so he can branded. Fortunato reacted immediately and he agrees on doing that himself. They both enter in the catacombs bellow the mansion of Montresor. As they go on because on the niter the sickness of Fortunato was getting worse. At the end Fortunato dies because the aggravating sickness but Montresor instead of being happy he felt sick. Montresor truly have executed a perfect crime, if he did not tell anyone no one could ever find out the crime and fallow the Family’s motto: “No one wound me with impunity”. But it was not a perfect vengeance, and the end Montresor showed signs of repent of what he has done, and maybe he learn that vengeance is not as sweet as it sounds.

I sort of disagree with you when you say that Fortunato is a powerful man. All he had was his wine knowledge, besides that he was no one. Montresor was very brilliant and he did knew his victim extremely well. I have to give you credit for that. I also agree with you when you say that vengeance is not as sweet as it seems because after killing Fortunato, Montresor didn't feel any good at all. This really was a perfect crime, perfectly planned and perfectly executed. Perfect crime, not such a sweet vengeance.
Where in the story does it say that Montressor felt bad or sick of what he had done? It does say that he was sick in a way but not because he felt bad of what he had done. In a way it was a perfect crime. No one ever found out who did it or where was Fortunato until he told the story many years later to whoever he told it to...
I agree with you that for Montresor vengeance after all wasn't sucesfull for him and i think it is because he never demostrate his enemy that he hate him or he was upset with him he just trick him and take him to the deadly road but fortunato never figured out montresors feeling and i think he was scared of letting fortunato know he was sicking revenge to him and he act cowardly because first fortunat was drunk and second he don't remember nothing not even how he died.
